"CHURCH EATON, a parish in the western division of the hundred of Cuttlestone, in the county of Stafford, 6 miles from Newport, and 5 from Penkridge, its post town and railway station of the Birmingham and Stafford branch of the North-Western line. It is situated near the Birmingham and Liverpool canal, and contains Marston and six other hamlets.

The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lichfield, value £976, in the patronage of the Earl of Shrewsbury. The church is dedicated to St. Edith, and is principally in the Norman style of architecture. The parochial charities produce about £202 per annum, of which £123 is the revenue of the grammar school.

In the vicinity was discovered a curious slab of stone, with the imprint of the feet of cattle or deer."
